Senior Fluvial Geomorphologist/Stream Restoration Specialist
Charles P. Johnson and Associates, Inc. (CPJ), is seeking a full-time Senior Fluvial Geomorphologist/Stream Restoration Specialist for our Environmental Services Division in Gaithersburg, MD. Primary responsibilities will include the investigation, design, and construction oversight of a wide range of water and related resources projects including stream restoration, stormwater management, habitat enhancement, and watershed study. Representative projects include water quality and watershed assessment/planning and the restoration of streams and stormwater systems for bank stabilization, species habitat recreation, and utility protection.
The successful candidate will possess broad competency within the general fields of water resources, hydrology and hydraulics, stormwater engineering, and will also demonstrate significant depth of knowledge in fluvial geomorphology, sediment transport, and stream ecology. It is expected the candidate will hold a degree in civil or environmental engineering, hydrology, geology, geomorphology, landscape architecture, environmental science, or a related science. A licensed P.E. is preferred. The preferred candidate must have at least five years of stream restoration design experience, as well as formal natural stream channel design or other specialized training in stream restoration, stream assessment and design and stream geomorphology. A balance of fieldwork and design activities are necessary, and experience using AutoCAD and GIS is preferred but not required.
A reputation as a team player, with personal initiative, self motivation, strong decision making skills, and willingness to put in the extra time and effort as needed is highly valued. You will need strong writing and speaking skills as well as the desire to grow personally and professionally with each project.
