Licensed Virginia Land Surveyor (Fairfax, VA Office)
Job Duties
  • Preparation of boundary and topographic surveys, as-built surveys, ALTA surveys, bathymetric surveys for residential, commercial and industrial projects in Northern Virginia.
  • Prepare Record Plats, easement plats, legal descriptions, etc.
  • Coordinate work with clients, review agencies and attorneys.
  • Perform deed research and prepare field packages.
  • Prepare proposals
  • Provide quality control
  • Assist other company departments in the preparation of rezonings, infill lot grading plans, preliminary plats, subdivisions and site plans. Interact with County staff, clients, members of the public and elected and appointed officials. Possible attendance at night meetings. Involvement with industry related associations/organizations will be expected.

 

Required Skills and Experience
  • Must be familiar with Fairfax County and Northern Virginia land development, site plan and subdivision procedures and regulations.
  • Familiar with AutoCAD Civil 3D, above average written and oral communication skills, project organizational and time management skills. 
  • A Virginia Surveyor’s License and a minimum of 4 years experience in Northern Virginia is required.

Land Development Engineer (Fairfax, VA Office) 
Job Duties

Prepare site and subdivision plans for residential, commercial and industrial projects in Northern Virginia, to include stormwater management, storm sewer plans and profiles, outfall analysis, sanitary sewer plans and profiles, water line plans and profiles, water network analysis, public street design, erosion and sediment control plans, fire lane plans, pavement designs, pavement striping and signage plans, maintenance of traffic plans, bond estimates and bond reductions. Assist clients with County and VDOT bonding and permitting procedures. Assist other company departments in the preparation of rezonings, infill lot grading plans and preliminary plats. Interact with County staff, clients, members of the public and elected and appointed officials. Possible attendance at night meetings. Involvement with industry related associations/organizations will be expected.

Required Skills and Experience

Familiar with AutoCAD Civil 3D, above average written and oral communication skills, project organizational and time management skills.

Field Party Chief (Fairfax, VA Office)
Required Skills and Experience

The desired candidate shall have 10-15 years of surveying experience in Construction, Boundary and Topographic surveying with a minimum of 5 years as a field crew leader in charge. Individual must be a trustworthy and responsible leader with a clean driving record and a firm knowledge of Robotic and GPS equipment.

Senior Level Planner/Landscape Architect (Silver Spring, MD Office) 
 
CPJA is a multi-disciplinary firm looking for a senior level Planner/Landscape Architect to take a leadership position in the Planning Division of the Silver Spring MD office.  The applicant will be responsible for preparing and managing a wide range of large and small projects including residential, mixed use, commercial and institutional. This will include preparation of project proposals, staff management and billing. The position includes direct mentorship of junior staff and working with staff to develop design drawings.  The position requires regular meetings with the clients and agencies and a complete understanding of the regulations that govern the design, review and approval processes within the various local agencies. The applicant will be responsible for a staff that includes other landscape architects, site designers and CADD technicians. We are looking for an applicant that will participate in organizations and activities related to the industry and contribute to the CPJA marketing effort.
 
Required Skills and Experience
 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture (PLA/RLA required).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in site planning and landscape architectural design.
  • Graphic design presentation skills are required.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Oral presentation experience.
  • Grading ability required.
  • Knowledge of Montgomery County and Prince Georges County preferred.
  • CADD: AutoCAD 3D is required Photoshop, Sketch-Up, or similar, is recommended

Water Resources Engineer (Silver Spring, MD Office)

Charles P. Johnson & Associates, Inc  seeks a Water Resources Engineer to join its Public Sector Division. The Water Resources Engineer will primarily be responsible for designs of all aspects of water resources projects. The candidate must be able to complete complex hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, design water resources improvements including stream restoration, dam improvements, and storm drain and storm water management retrofits, prepare and obtain all approvals for all construction documents, handle client communications, and participate construction observation and documentation efforts. This position will also be required to work with CAD technicians, surveyors, and sub-consultants as well as assist in the preparation of construction documents. The candidate will be required to communicate with the Public Sector Division Manager as well as other Project Managers on a daily basis.

A BS in Civil Engineering plus one (1) year of water resources experience is required. Must  also be able to demonstrate intimate knowledge of and experience in the execution of water resources projects including phases of feasibility, conceptual design, construction document preparation, permitting, and construction management and documentation.  The candidate must have experience with AutoDesk’s Civil 3D and Microsoft’s Project.

Land Survey Technician (Silver Spring, MD Office)

This position requires the ability to complete a number of tasks in a fast- paced environment that includes, but is not limited to, the following:

CAD Technician (Silver Spring, MD Office)

CPJ seeks an energetic and highly motivated 3-D CAD Technician. Under general supervision, provides expertise in the performance of computer-assisted design to support water management services of the company. Applies engineering fundamentals to engineering design; and production of drawings in support of water engineering projects.

Job Duties
  • Work from detailed sketches or off redlines to prepare plans, profiles, and detail drawings in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 (and more current versions)
  • Develop land documents showing topographical contours, elevations, profiles and cross-sections as well as develop draft design engineering drawings
  • Handle AutoCAD transfers. Must be flexible in work assignments
  • Analyze sketches, notes and other input material to determine and plan the best approach to develop and complete drawings with minimal supervision
  • Maintain organized work area to allow access of project to team members
  • Ability to process paper/electronic documents and utilize computer equipment; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to visit project sites if necessary.
  • Job also requires ability to evaluate alternatives and select solutions, manage multiple concurrent projects.

Senior Water Resources Engineer and Project Manager (Silver Spring, MD Office)
CPJ seeks a Senior Water Resources Engineer and Project Manager to join its Public Sector Division.
 
Job Duties
The desired candidate will primarily be responsible for managing and serving as a technical lead for all aspects of water resources projects. The candidate must be able to complete complex hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, design water resources improvements including stream restoration, dam improvements, and storm drain and stormwater management retrofits, prepare and obtain all approvals for all construction documents, handle all client communications, and manage construction observation and documentation efforts. The desired candidate will also be required to manage engineering/CAD technicians, surveyors, and sub-consultants as well as oversee preparation of construction documents. The candidate will be required to communicate with the Public Sector Division Manager as well as with clients, and other industry professionals on a daily basis.
 
Required Skills and Experience
The desired candidate shall possess a bachelor’s degree and a professional engineer’s license in the state of Maryland (or the ability to obtain a Maryland license within three (3) months of hire). A Master’s degree is not required but is considered a plus. The desired candidate shall have a minimum of seven (7) years of water resources experience and must be able to demonstrate intimate knowledge of and experience in the execution of water resources projects including phases of feasibility, conceptual design, construction document preparation, permitting, and construction management and documentation. The candidate should be familiar with permitting processes of Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Howard Counties as well as the Maryland State Highway Administration and the Maryland Department of the Environment. The candidate must have experience with AutoDesk’s Civil 3D and Microsoft’s Project. Knowledge of other programs such as Bentley’s Microstation and ESRI’s ArcGIS is considered a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. The candidate is expected to be a team player and able to learn new skills through in-office training and continuing education programs outside of the office.

CPJ seeks a Land Development Engineer to join its Enginering Department.

Prepare site and subdivision plans for residential, commercial and industrial projects in Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis, to include storm water management, storm sewer plans and profiles, outfall analysis, sanitary sewer plans and profiles, water line plans and profiles, water network analysis, public street design, erosion and sediment control plans, fire lane plans, pavement designs, pavement striping and signage plans, maintenance of traffic plans, bond estimates and bond reductions. Assist clients with bonding and permitting procedures.  Assist other company departments in the preparation of re-zonings, infill lot grading plans and preliminary plats.  Interact with County staff, clients, members of the public and elected and appointed officials. Possible attendance at night meetings.  Involvement with industry related associations/organizations will be expected.

Landscape Architect (Silver Spring, MD
 Office)

Job Duties 

The position will be performing park designs, grading plans, wetlands delineations, and other environmental services such as natural resource inventories and forest stand delineations.  The position will be responsible for obtaining permits and sealing landscape and planting plans. The candidate will be responsible for preparing construction documents, specifications and bidding documents. Time will be split between office and sites.  The candidate will be required to do site visits to identify trees for tree surveys or mark wetlands, and perform landscape inspections during construction.

 

Required Skills and Experience

The desired candidate shall possess a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited University. The desired candidate shall have a minimum of five (5) years of experience and must be able to demonstrate intimate knowledge of and experience in the execution of landscape design and environmental projects including phases of feasibility, conceptual design, construction document preparation, permitting, and construction management and documentation.  An Arborist certification is a plus but not a requirement.  The candidate must be licenses in the State of Maryland. The candidate must have experience with AutoDesk’s Civil 3D and Microsoft’s Project. Knowledge of other programs such as ESRI’s ArcGIS is considered a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. The candidate is expected to be a team player and able to learn new skills through in-office training and continuing education programs outside of the office.
