Senior Civil Engineer

We are currently seeking an energetic and experienced Mid-Level or Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in Silver Spring, Maryland. This leadership role is ideal for a technically skilled professional with strong design expertise and a passion for guiding teams through complex land development projects. You’ll serve as the lead Civil Engineering Designer for projects across multiple jurisdictions, primarily in Prince George’s County and Charles County, Maryland.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

  • Working knowledge of engineering tools such as HEC-RAS, StormCAD, WaterCAD, or similar software.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and teams.

  • In-depth knowledge of the land development and entitlement processes for Charles County and Prince George’s County is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with public-facing roles or client interaction is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead Designer and technical expert for the engineering team, including Quality Control on all plan submissions.

  • Manage coordination between clients, agencies, and internal CPJ staff.

  • Act as CPJ’s Project Manager on selected projects, tracking entitlement processes and ensuring client satisfaction.

  • Interpret and apply survey data, legal descriptions, and applicable codes and standards to engineering designs.

  • Prepare comprehensive site and subdivision plans for residential, commercial, and industrial developments, including:

  • Stormwater management and storm sewer profiles

  • Sanitary sewer and water line plans

  • Roadway and ADA-compliant site grading

  • Erosion & sediment control

  • Pavement design, striping, and signage

  • Fire lane planning and maintenance of traffic plans

  • Assist clients with bonding and permitting procedures.

  • Collaborate with other departments on rezoning efforts, infill lot grading, and preliminary plats.

  • Represent CPJ at occasional evening meetings and participate in relevant industry associations.

Junior Civil Engineer

We are seeking a Full-Time Junior Civil Engineer to join our Silver Spring, Maryland office. This entry-level position is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals looking to gain hands-on experience in civil engineering design, construction inspection, and project development. Under the guidance of senior technical staff, you will support a variety of public and private sector projects throughout the region.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must possess one of the following:

  • (a) Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related field;

  • OR (b) Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Construction Engineering Technology (or a related field) plus one (1) year of relevant experience in construction, surveying, design, inspection, or estimating.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and supervise minor construction and maintenance projects including roadways, storm drains, water mains, sewers, and sidewalks.

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering designs and construction documents.

  • Perform field surveys, collect design data, and assist in quantity calculations.

  • Verify that construction materials conform to project specifications.

  • Serve as the chief of a survey crew when needed.

  • Conduct surveys for contractor payment evaluations.

Custom Homes Designer

We are seeking an energetic and experienced Custom Homes Designer knowledgeable in Stormwater Management to join our team in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Role Summary

The role involves aiding with Stormwater and Sediment Control design for our Custom Homes and Engineering Department. The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively across departments, demonstrate analytical skills in design procedures, and ensure timely completion of projects in coordination with clients and review agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Stormwater and Sediment Control design

  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment

  • Analyze design requirements and provide solutions

  • Coordinate with clients and review agencies to meet project deadlines

  • Perform other duties as assigned

​

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Knowledge of Water Resources Engineering

  • Experience with "In-Fill" lots in Montgomery and PG County preferred

  • Background in Civil Engineering

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Familiarity with basic line drawings, architectural drawings, and landscaping plans

  • Excellent project organizational and time management skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
